All-star hockey player Brian Gionta plays for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League. Gionta was drafted 82nd overall in the 1998 NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils. He did not join the NHL right away and played for Boston College for three seasons after the draft. He joined the Devils in 2001 for his NHL debut and split his first season between the Devils and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany River Rats. Gionta earned a full roster spot with the Devils in 2002 and continued to play in the NHL until the 2004-05 lockout, when he played 15 games with the River Rats. Gionta signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens in the summer of 2009.
Brian Gionta 2009-2010 Season
The 2009-2010 season brought about a new look for the Montreal Canadiens. Ex-New Jersey Devils Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta joined the team. The two small-sized players were expected to lead a speedy group of forwards for the Habs. Unfortunately, Gionta was one of many Canadien players to be hit with the injury bug. On November 3, he suffered a serious foot injury against the Atlanta Thrashers and was out for 21 games, not returning until December 28.http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8467407&view=notes Gionta ended up playing 61 games, scoring 28 goals and 18 assists for 46 points to go along with 26 penalty minutes.http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8467407&view=stats
