Quarterback Brett Favre announced on July 28, 2009 that he would remain retired rather than joining the Minnesota Vikings for the 2009 season.
Favre stated it was the "hardest decision" that he's ever made. Favre retired from the Green Bay Packers in 2008, then returned to play for the New York Jets, before retiring again. He underwent surgery in May of 2009 with the intent to join the Vikings, however decided against it.
