Bret McKenzie is an actor, musician and one-half of folk-comedy duo The Flight of the Conchords. McKenzie met his Conchords' partner Jemaine Clement in 1998 at the Victoria University of Wellington. The two garnered international attention following their 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival performance. In 2007, the duo's self-titled HBO series premiered, and in 2008, they released their first stateside full-length album on Sub Pop Records.
Outside of the Conchords, McKenzie is known for his role as the elf Figwit in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. He was a member of New Zealand dub band The Black Seeds and has released a solo album, entitled Prototype, under the name Video Kid.
