Brest is a city in France located in the Bretagne region (also known as "Brittany"). It is a hub for art and theater, in addition to sporting activities such as sailing and bicycling.

On July 5, 2008, Brest was the location that kicked off the Tour de France bicycle race. Cyclists rode from Brest to the town of Plumelec for the 122+ mile (197.5 kilometer) first stage of the competition. The stage was won by Alejandro Valverde.VeloNews: Stage 1: Brest—Plumelec (197.5km)
