Los Angeles firefighter Brent Lovrien died on March 27, 2008, in an explosion on the 8800 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard, near the Water and Power Community Credit Union, in Westchester, California. He was 35 years old.
Though it is still unclear what actually caused the explosion, possible explanations include a previous electrical fire in a utility room bordering the credit union, a gas leak or a power saw being used by another firefighter at the scene. A second firefighter, Anthony J. Guzman, was seriously injured in the blast. The explosion left about 400 customers without power.
