Brenda Blethyn is an English film, television, stage actress, and writer. She got her start in the 1980s, doing theater productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dalliance, Born Yesterday and Benefactors as well as the television shows, Chance in a Million and The Labours of Erica.

In the early 1990s, Blethyn appeared in several films, such as The Witches and A River Runs Through It. She got her big break in 1996, when she appeared as "Cynthia Rpse Purley" in Mike Leigh's, Secrets and Lies. For this performance, Blethyn received a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In 1997, Blethyn was nominated for a second Oscar, for her role in Little Voice.

In the 2000s, Blethyn appeared in a myriad of films, including Saving Grace, Lovely and Amazing, Pumpkin and Beyond the Sea. In 2005, Blethyn starred as Mrs. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice alongside Kiera Knightley and Donald Sutherland.

In 2006, Blethyn wrote an autobiography entitled Mixed Fancies.
