Breath of Fire is a classic role-playing game for the SNES and is the first game in the Breath of Fire series.Players control Ryu, who leaves his village to stop the Dark Dragons and their plan to release the evil goddess Tyr.

Ryu is the main character of the game. As he sets out into the world, he learns about the fight between the Light Dragons and the Dark Dragons. To prevent the Dark Dragons from releasing Tyr and controlling the world, Ryu must collect the six Goddess keys before the Dark Dragon Emperor Zog.

The game is a turn-based RPG with random battles. Players can command only the leading character and can change the order of the group line at any time. Up to four characters can battle at a time and players are rewarded experience points and gold. There are mini-games such as fishing and hunting. The meat from the animals can restore HP and abilitiy points.
