Break Dancing History
In 1969, James Brown released a hit song called Get on the Good Foot. A dance emerged from the song and this dance was known as the Good Foot. This was where most people say that break dancing got its start.http://www.breakdanceclass.com/hisotry/index.html
In New York in the early 1970s, gangs began using break dancing battles as a way to solve their issues and earn respect from the other gangs. Each gangs best break dancers would battle in the streets. These battles were used as ways to solve issues like turf wars or any other issues that the gangs had with each other. The dancing battles did not always stop the gangs from fighting, because the losers were not happy about losing. But it did help reduce the amount of gang fights that had been taking place. This led to break dancing crews being formed and battles taking place that were not necessarily due to gang fights.http://www.globaldarkness.com/articles/history%20of%20breaking.htm
