Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art derived from pre-World War II Kodokan Judo, which was founded by the Gracie brothers: Hélio and Carlos Gracie. Also known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, it evolved around the notion that every real fight starts standing and ends in the ground becoming the martial art that most specializes in ground-fighting (newaza) today. Since its founding it was promoted and has proven its efficiency and effectiveness through challenge matches against every other martial art and fighting disciplines. It was the driving force behind the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is a landmark for the explosion of the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) phenomenon.
