Brandon Roy

Professional basketball guard Brandon Roy plays for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association. Brandon was born July 23rd, 1984 in Seattle, Washington. He stayed in his homestate and played for the Washington Huskies in college. He led Washington to back to back sweet sixteens in his junior and senior season, before graduating, and entering the NBA draft. Brandon was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves before being traded to the Portland Trailblazers with the sixth pick of the 2006 draft.

Brandon Dawayne Roy was born in Seattle, Washington, on July 23, 1984, and attended Garfield High School. He continued his education at the University of Washington. Roy won Pac-10 player of the year honors as a senior. He led the Huskies to their second straight sweet sixteen of the NCAA tournament, in scoring 20.2 points a game. The Huskies finished the year 26-7. In 2006, Roy was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the sixth pick in the NBA draft. Roy debuted versus the Sonics in 2006. He scored 20 points in this game, setting a tone for a strong rookie season. Even with suffering an injury in his heel, causing him to miss a total of 25 games for the year, Roy managed to win Rookie of the Year honors. He averaged 17 points a game, and four rebounds and assists. In his second year, Roy was selected as a reserve to the NBA all star game. Before the all star break, he was averaging 19 points, six assists and five rebounds a game. During this stretch, the Blazers went on a 13 game winning streak. He shortly went down to injury once again, this time to his ankle. He returned and finished the season strong. Roy scored a career high 52 points in 2008 versus Phoenix. He got picked as a reserve for the second straight season, and was 9th in voting for the NBA MVP, in leading Portland to a fourth place finish in the West.

This year, heightened expectations hit the Blazers, and the team didn't respond well due in large part to injuries. Roy was one of the major guys hit. His hamstring, and meniscus both caused him to miss games. The team managed to win 50 games still, and Roy contributed in the playoffs, eight days after surgery on his meniscus. He was named to the all star team for a third time.

In his first season, Roy appeared in 57 games and averaged 16.8 points, 4 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. In the 2008-09 season, Roy led the Blazers to the playoffs for the first time in eight years. Brandon was the teams leading scorer with 22.6 points per game. In the 2009-10 season with the team receiving heightened expectations, most of the team was hampered by injuries. Roy was included in this epidemic. Brandon played in only 65 games, averaging 21.5 points, even with the injuries the team won 50 games still. Brandon injured his meniscus before the start of the playoffs, and sat out the first two games of Portland's series with Phoenix. He came back for the next four, in Phoenix's six game series victory.
