Background
From 1999 to 2001, Routh appeared in various TV shows, including Odd Man Out, Undressed and Gilmore Girls. His first steady role was on the soap opera One Life to Live.After guest spots on Cold Case and Will and Grace, Routh booked his breakthrough role as Superman for the film Superman Returns in 2006.
Bearing a resemblance to the late Christopher Reeve, Routh's performance was met with mixed reviews: some critics, like Roger Ebert, thought he lacked charisma.
Routh has since worked on John Singleton's Without Remorse, which is currently in turnaround at Paramount Pictures, and Lie To Me co-starring Courtney Ford, who he married in 2007.
