National Football League safety Brandon Meriweather currently plays for the New England Patriots. Meriweather was drafted out of the University of Miami, FL 24th overall by the Patriots in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played all 16 regular season games with the Patriots in 2007, plus two playoff games and in Super Bowl XLII. He recorded 27 tackles his rookie season, including 18 solo tackles.
College Years
Meriweather played with the Miami Hurricanes Football team while studying criminology in college. He was twice selected as an All-American and was nominated for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the top defensive back in the NCAA. He was also involved in two separate incidents in 2006. Meriweather was involved in a shooting on July 21, 2006. Although he did fire a gun, he was not charged as the gun was legally in his possession. He was later involved in a brawl during a game against the Florida International University football team. Meriweather was one of several players suspended for the fight.
