Brandon McCarthy is a right-handed pitcher for the Texas Rangers. After attending Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, CO, McCarthy played baseball at Lamar Community College. After his collegiate career, the Chicago White Sox selected McCarthy in the 17th round of the 2002 amateur draft. After a few years as a minor league pitching prospect in the White Sox farm system, he made his major league debut on May 22, 2005. After two seasons in Chicago, the White Sox traded McCarthy along with David Paisano to the Rangers, for John Danks, Nick Masset, and Jacob Rasner.
Strengths
McCarthy throws two-seam and four-seam fastballs, and strikes out batters with his solid curve[1].
Weaknesses
McCarthy surrenders too many home runs, and his change-up is inconsistent[1].
