    Braden Looper was drafted by the Cardinals in 1996, making his big league debut in 1998. Looper was traded to the Florida Marlins at the end of the season. He became the closer for the Marlins and played for the team on their way to the World Series in 2003.

    Looper signed with the New York Mets in 2004 before rejoining the Cardinals' staff in 2006. He was primarily a setup man during the Cardinals World Series win in 2006. Looper became a starter for the first time in his career in 2007.
