Boutonniere

Boutonnières are small clusters of one or two flowers or greenery worn on the left lapel of a man's suit to formal occasions. The most common situations where a boutonnière is required are formal dances, such as prom, weddings or funerals.

How to Attach a Boutonnière

  1. If the suit has a buttonhole on the left lapel, thread the stem of the flower or boutonnière through the hole. You can pin the stem in place with a straight pin on the back of the lapel.
  2. If the suit has no buttonhole, choose a position for the boutonnière in the center of the left lapel and use a stick a straight pin into the stem from underside of the lapel, through the stem, and into the lapel again, so the point of the pin is on the back of the lapel.
