Bottega Veneta gained a following in the 1970s and 1980s around its woven handbag collection. However, in the 1990s the company began to struggle until it was almost ready for bankruptcy in the year 2000. It was then that Gucci stepped in to purchase the floundering company in 2001 and put Tomas Maier in charge as creative director. Famous clients of the brand include Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston among others. In addition to handbags, the company also produces fragrances, eyewear and shoes.New York Magazine: Bottega Veneta Overview
