• Who are the Boston Red Sox?

  The Boston Red Sox play in the Eastern Division of the Major League Baseball's American League. They are New England's only Major League Baseball team and their home stadium is Fenway Park. In their franchise history the Red Sox have won seven World Series titles, 12 American League pennants and seven East Division titles.

• Curse of the Bambino

  Boston has been long haunted by the alleged "Curse of the Bambino". Fans half-jokingly blamed the team's championship losses after 1920 on the team's trade of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. After the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series, the curse was declared dead and buried.

• Rivalry

  The most significant rivals the Boston Red Sox have are the New York Yankees. The teams have been rivals since before Boston's baseball team officially assumed the name "Red Sox". The rivalry became especially bitter during Boston's long championship drought. Hatred of the Yankees is so prevalent in the city that "Yankees suck!" is a cheer for all events - baseball games, football games, hockey games, even non-sports events. Several sports writers have stated during recent Boston championship seasons that Boston's victory over the Yankees in the pennant race was more important than their victory in the World Series.
