Boromir

  • Boromir is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. He is a soldier of Gondor and son to the Steward Denethor II. After his brother Faramir dreams of the return of Isildur's Bane, Boromir is sent by his father to the Council of Elrond at Rivendell, where he becomes one of the Fellowship of the Ring.

As the Fellowship travels, the pull of the Ring on Boromir's soul becomes heavier and heavier. It calls to him, and though he believes it is with a good heart he would use it, it is already clear how easily it would destroy him.

At the start of The Two Towers Boromir tries to convince Frodo Baggins to give him One Ring to help defend Gondor against the dark forces of Mordor. After Frodo refuses, there is a skirmish, but Frodo escapse. To atone for his misdeed, he puts his all into defending the hobbits Merry and Pippin, and is slain by Orcs. The boat carrying his remains was found three days later by his younger brother Faramir.

In the Peter Jackson film version of The Fellowship of the Ring, Boromir is portrayed by English actor Sean Bean.

    2. "One does not simply walk into Mordor. It's black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. The great eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, ash, and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly." -Fellowship of the Ring Film
    3. "It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing." -Fellowship of the Ring Film
