In February of 2009, two photos depicting a large, snake-like creature led to intense speculation about the existence of a monster in the Balleh River in Borneo. The alleged creature, which appears to be some sort of 100-foot-long serpent, appears similar to a legendary creature locals refer to as "Nabau." It has been suggested that the photographs themselves could be doctored or faked.LiveScience: 100-Foot 'Borneo Monster' Said Photographed (February 19, 2009)
Forgery?
Some elements of the photographs have led experts to speculate that the monster may be a hoax. The clarity of both shots, which clearly frame the monster in the center and seem to capture it while it is not moving, seem to indicate that the shots were planned as opposed to taken spontaneously. Likewise, though the monster is said to measure around 100 feet, the scale in both of the photos would seem to make it significantly larger. Finally, the Balleh River is typically gray and cloudy, but the water in the photographs appears clear and blue, indicating that they may have been shot elsewhere.LiveScience: 100-Foot 'Borneo Monster' Said Photographed (February 19, 2009)
