Tadic won a second term during Serbia's 2008 presidential elections. In the final round of elections, he earned 51% of the popular vote, beating contender Tomislav Nikolic's 47%. When Kosovo declared its Kosovo Independence in 2007, Tadic stated that Serbia would never recognize Kosovo's sovereignty.
