The Borderlands game's main focus is on character element building, which is most commonly found in role-playing games. Gearbox considered this a new type of game called role-playing shooter. The game gives players the option to select from four different characters, each including a different style of battle, elements and abilities. This game also allows for the player to build up their character in whichever fashion they find most effective, but ultimately reaching the maximum abilities by the end of the game. http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/index.html
The four character choices available are: Roland who is a soldier, Mordecai who is a Hunter, Lilith who is a Siren and Brick who is a Berserker. Borderlands also allows for free roam of the world, as locations are unlocked, allowing players to rummage through boxes, crates, lockers and piles of bones. Players gain experience by killing foes and completing challenges presented to them in the game. Some challenges are optional, but it is recommended that the player does all available challenges so they can obtain all weapons and more cash.http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/index.html
Introduction
- Colonization ships journey to Pandora, a distant planet on the edge of the galaxy, in the far off future. The colonists are in search of a better life and riches from the mineral deposits on the planet. Upon arrival, they find that the planet is barren. Those who are able to leave do so, but many people are stranded on the lawless, chaotic planet. When the planet transitions into spring after a long seven-year winter, horrible creatures emerge from their hibernation state. The goal of the game is to access the contents of a vault carved into the side of the mountain. The contents are said to contain alien technology and secrets. Play as one of four playable characters throughout your journey. Each has different accessories, skills, skill trees and abilities, along with a different history. Level up to increase health, ammunition capacity, and accuracy.
- Brick, a Berserker, is a massive man who makes good use of his fists. He wears a necklace of his dead dog's paw and is searching for his lost sister. He can take alot of abuse and goes into a "berserk" state in which the amount of damage he can take is reduced, but his melee attacks are extremely powerful.
- Lilith, one of six Sirens, has a great deal of power with no way to control it. She is on Pandora in search of another Siren to learn more about herself. She is able to Phase Walk and teleport herself into another dimension. During this time she is invisible and can sneak past enemies at great speeds. Once she reveals herself after Phase Walk, she detonates a powerful shock wave that damages all in the area.
- Mordecai, the Hunter, came to Pandora in search of someone from his past, Demosthenes. Having since learned of Demosthenes' death, he now wants to learn how he died. Mordecai is good with weapons and releases his deadly pet, Bloodwing, that is capable of killing multiple people at one time.
- Roland, a Soldier, was a Crimson Lance mercenary engineer. He is especially skilled with the turret that can be used to damage, heal or spawn ammunition. His bullets can also heal teammates. Roland can specialize in weapons to increase the damage they deal by up to 15 percent.
