Borderlands Secret Armory of General Knoxx Walkthrough

Introduction

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx is the third downloadable expansion for the hit action/RPG video game Borderlands. New areas, weapons, enemies and vehicles await players as they deal with the increasing threat of the Atlas Corporation, whose deadly Crimson Lance commandos are armed to the teeth and bent on ruling the lawless planet of Pandora, even if it means reducing it to rubble. Secret Armory offers an expansion of the game's level cap, which means characters who have previously reached the maximum level of 50 can now bring that up to 61. And you'll need all the levels you can get; the new story and side missions are scaled up in difficulty, making for a challenging experience, even for players who've mastered the original game.

The main story of Secret Armory revolves around, well, a secret armory, guarded by--you guessed it--General Knoxx. Knoxx, once a loyal officer in the Atlas Corporation's mercenary army, has become weary--and a little nuts--with the constant chaos and corruption on Pandora. He's squirreled away a treasure trove of devastating weapons, a fact that's raised the interest of every mercenary and fortune seeker on the planet. Gaining access to the armory won't be easy; you'll have to scour the area for clues to its location, and for the code that will let you enter. Once you've found the armory, there's still General Knoxx to contend with, and he's no pushover. Sporting a huge mechanized battle suit and a loyal army of goons, Knoxx will make a fitting challenge for even the most experienced players.

The many side missions present a nice range of difficulty and time consumption. Some are short and breezy, some are long slogs that will require a major outlay of effort and ammo.

Consult the walkthrough below for a step-by-step rundown of every main story mission and optional side quest in Secret Armory.

Main Story Missions

The main story of Secret Armory revolves around finding, entering and, eventually, destroying General Knoxx's hidden fortress. General Knoxx is a jaded psychopath encased in a robotic battle suit, and the area is crawling with his goons, who are equipped with all kinds of advanced weaponry and armor, so reaching your final goal--and all the goodies waiting for you there--will be no cakewalk. Below is a complete walkthrough of the missions you must complete in order to finish Secret Armory's main story. Unless you intend to do only the main story, and absolutely nothing else, you may want to consult the Side Quests section, as many of the optional missions can be conveniently folded into the main story.

To begin The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, find any Fast Travel station and select T-Bone Junction.

Scooter? But I Don't Even Know Her

  1. Open the door and go outside, into T-Bone Junction.
  2. Find Scooter working on one of the cars outside.
  3. Talk to Scooter to turn in the mission, and get the next one.

Boost the Monster

  1. Follow the waypoint down to the lower level, where platforms are strung precariously together, connected only by rickety ramps and staircases. Be careful moving around down here, as falling off the edge will kill you instantly.
  2. Jump down from the broken ramp, onto the platform to which the waypoint directs you.
  3. Find the X372 Supercharger and pick it up.
  4. Go back the way you came; be careful jumping back up onto the broken ramp.
  5. When you're back on street level, follow the waypoint up the incline, then turn left, and go into the open area there.
  6. Approach the second part, the Nitrous Oxide Tank, to trigger an ambush by the Crimson Lance assassins. These are acrobatic and deadly mercenary killers, bent on collecting the substantial bounty on your head. Their leader, Vulcana, is particularly dangerous. Defend yourself against the assassins, taking them down however you can. See the Side Quest section, under "Wanted: Dead," for a bit of information on this attack.
  7. When you've defeated the assassins, grab the Nitrous Oxide Tank and continue on.
  8. Follow the waypoint up another incline. You'll find the Exhaust Pipe on the upper level, and this time you won't have to fight for it.
  9. Grab the Exhaust Pipe and head back down the incline, then down the other incline, toward Scooter's garage.
  10. Find Scooter behind the desk of the garage, and talk to him to turn this mission in, and get the next.

Grease Monkey

  1. Locate the car in Scooter's garage.
  2. Install the parts you just found. The sections of the car where the parts fit will glow, indicating that you need to interact with them.
  3. When the parts are in place, hit the switch next to the car.
  4. Go back to Scooter to turn this mission in.
  5. You can now use the Monster, a bigger and badder vehicle than the car in the original game. The Monster's gun fires a cluster bomb of three heat-seeking missiles, which you can depend on to hone in on their target, even if they have to circle it three or four times. The Monster can also use turbo for longer periods of time, allowing you to move faster either toward or away from danger.

You've Got Moxxi's: Roadblock

  1. Get in the car, and drive out into T-Bone Junction.
  2. Follow the waypoint to the entrance to the next area, the Crimson Tollway. Activate the switch to take you there.
  3. Drive down the tollway. It's a straight shoot, so you don't have to worry about getting lost.
  4. Fight the Lance Probes who appear from the sides of the road. These pesky robots arn't much of a threat by themselves, but if you let three or four build up and attack you from behind, they can do some damage. Best to take them out right away, at least for now.
  5. The other cars on the tollway, though technically enemies, usually won't attack you if you drive by them fast enough, and don't start a fight. However, be on your guard; sometimes they'll swerve and bump you, or fire a random shot at you, and then it's on.
  6. Watch out for the two Gatling Turrets, one on either side of the road.
  7. Drive as far as you can, to the area of the roadblock. Use the Monster's guns to take out any enemies in the area, then hop out and continue on foot.
  8. Go up the stairs along the wall on the right. Fight any enemies who appear here, and on the rooftop above.
  9. Turn right, then right again, and go across the walkway. Watch out for the Lance Rocketeers, who hover around in the air shooting at you.
  10. Move across the rooftop, fighting enemies. Look for the small flight of stairs at the end of the rooftop, and go up.
  11. Go down the stairs on your left. Watch out for another turret, on the right.
  12. Follow the waypoint halfway across the walkway, and find the roadblock controls there. Hit the controls to deactivate the roadblock.
  13. Drop down to the road--this shouldn't hurt you much--and get in your car. If you lost it, there's a station nearby where you can spawn a new one.
  14. Drive through the area where the roadblock previously stood to automatically turn in this mission, and receive the next, and a message from General Knoxx.

You've Got Moxxi's: Moxxi's Red Light

  1. Drive through the Crimson Tollway, to the entrance to the next area, Deep Fathoms. Go in.
  2. Drive down the raised highway. Bear right, and take the ramp there down to the desert floor.
  3. Drive across the desert, following the waypoint. You're looking for another ramp, leading to another section of raised highway.
  4. Fight any enemies who appear.
  5. Drive as far as you can, until stopped by the narrow entrance to the area around the ramp. Hop out and proceed on foot.
  6. Fight through the enemies here, and continue on. When you get to the ramp, head up.
  7. Battle the second squad of Lance Assassins, led by the deadly Hera. When they're taken care of, keep going, toward Moxxi's Red Light.
  8. Enter Moxxi's Red Light. Find Moxxi behind the bar, and talk to her to turn in this mission, and get the next.

Prison Break: Road Warrior

  1. Drive through T-Bone Junction, to the Ridgeway area. Go in.
  2. Drive down the Ridgeway, to the first roadblock. Use the car's guns to take out anyone in range, then hop out, and mop up anyone left behind.
  3. Go up the stairs on the wall on the right. Fight enemies on the rooftop above.
  4. Go across a walkway, then another, then up a set of stairs on the right. There will be groups of Crimson Lance soldiers of various types along the way; take cover when you need to, and don't rush. Take down the enemies however you can, and make sure you've gotten them all before proceeding.
  5. Go down the stairs, onto the next section of rooftop. Be ready for another Lance Assassin attack, led by Minerva. Kill the whole assassin squad before moving on.
  6. Find the roadblock controls in the center of a walkway running above the road. Hit the switch to deactivate the first of the two roadblocks on the Ridgeway.
  7. Drop down to the road, and get in your car, or spawn a new one at the station just past where the roadblock stood.
  8. Drive on down the Ridgeway. Take out the Lance Probes that appear, and watch for the Gatling Turrets on either side of the road.
  9. Use turbo to jump the ramp in the middle of the road. If you get hung up, don't worry about it; you won't be using the car much longer anyway.
  10. When you get to the line of barriers in the road, hop out of the car and go forward on foot.
  11. Fight the Crimson Lance soldiers on the other side of the barriers.
  12. Keep going; there'll be another group of enemies a bit further ahead.
  13. Keep moving, and keep fighting. There are enemies galore on this stretch of the Ridgeway, and you'll have to take them all out. Proceed carefully, and try to sneak up on each successive group, so that at least you have the element of surprise on your side.
  14. Take out the enemies on the far side of the fence running across the road.
  15. Go past the fence, and look to the left. Go down the stairs there, onto the metal walkway running parallel to the Ridgeway.
  16. Watch out for the Lance Rocketeers who fly up to stop you. Slap them down like flies.
  17. At the end of the walkway, go up the stairs and back onto the Ridgeway proper. There are more enemies waiting for you here, so move carefully.
  18. Move down the Ridgeway, and fight enemies as they appear. Be prepared--or anyway, as prepared as you can be--for the huge battle-suit-clad Devastator, a powerful enemy who you'll need to put some serious damage on before he'll go down.
  19. Once you've defeated the Devastator, move ahead, through the tunnel. Watch out for the enemies that drop down from above.
  20. Keep going, until you run into another Devastator. Do what you need to do to take him down.
  21. Continue on, through the next group of enemies. Eventually you'll come to another line of barriers. On the other side, you can spawn a new car, and drive for awhile.
  22. More Lance Probes will pop up; take them down, and keep going.
  23. At the next roadblock, take out whatever enemies you can with the car's guns, then hop out and move forward on foot.
  24. Go up the stairs on the right. By now, you should know the drill: fight your way across the rooftops, through waves of enemy soldiers. There are some heavy hitters up here, including some Badass Crimson Lance troops of various types.
  25. Find the walkway leading above the road. The roadblock control is halfway across the walkway. Shut it down.
  26. Drop down to the road, and go through the area formerly occupied by the roadblock to turn in this mission, and get the next.

Prison Break: Over the Wall

  1. Drive to the Sunken Sea area.
  2. Take the ramp on the right down to the desert floor.
  3. Watch for enemies. Gigantic, acid-spitting spiders, called Drifters, populate the deserts in this part of the planet. They're very aggressive, and will usually attack you when you're in range, and follow you when you're not. It's generally a good idea to take them out as quickly as possible. Use the car's guns to take them down.
  4. Follow the waypoint north across the desert.
  5. When you get near the prison, bear left, and look for a rickety metal ramp beneath a hole in the rock wall.
  6. Line your car up, and head for the ramp. Use turbo to jump off it, through the hole in the rock, and onto a section of road. Drive up the road.
  7. At the top, look for a short bridge on your left. Drive across it, onto a small section of ground with a house.
  8. Look for the ramp facing the prison. Back up and line your car up with the ramp, then hit turbo, and jump across the empty space, onto the prison grounds.
  9. Walk along the wall, until you find the gate. Go into the prison yard.
  10. Fight the enemies in the prison yard. There are Killers, Outlaws, and other bad guys you'll recognize from the original game; small potatoes, compared to the Crimson Lance.
  11. Find the Echo Locator along the wall on the left. Activate it to turn this mission in, and get the next.

Prison Break: Try Not to Get Shanked

  1. Find the entrance to the Lockdown Palace area, and activate it to enter the prison.
  2. Kill the Bangers and Thugs waiting for you inside.
  3. Follow the waypoint through the prison. Groups of enemies will appear pretty frequently; take them out and keep moving.
  4. In the large garage area in the northwest corner of the prison, find a Claptrap in need of help. Talk to it to accept its mission, "Claptrap Rescue: Lockdown Palace."
  5. In the next room, watch out for the large group of enemies, including some Badasses.
  6. When the enemies are cleared out, find the vending machines against the wall on the right. Go down the hallway just past the machines.
  7. Near the end of the hallway, drop down through the hole in the floor t find the prison shower room, and the area's boss, Mr. Shank.
  8. Battle Shank. He's pretty tough, or at least, pretty persistent. His shield is very powerful, and he teleports whenever he gets in trouble. You'll need to be patient to wear his shield down, but once you do, he's a weakling underneath. Use electrical weapons to lower his shield, then pretty much anything to bring him down. Needless to say, don't let him get behind you.
  9. Don't forget to grab the Crimson Lance Personal Teleporter before you leave the shower room.
  10. Go out through the newly unlocked door, and down the hallway.
  11. Fight the enemies here. Move on, and when you come to the large cell block room, fight some more.
  12. On the northern wall of the cell block room, find the elevator switch, and hit it to reach the next tier.
  13. Fight the enemies on the walkway, and move down toward the other end of the room.
  14. In the caged-in room on the southern end of the second floor of the cell block, find the Claptrap Repair Kit and pick it up.
  15. Go up the stairs on the left, and fight your way once more to the other side of the room. On the northern wall of the third floor, find a door, and open it.
  16. Find Athena in a cell beyond the door. Give her the Personal Teleporter, then go toward the door leading to the cell block to turn this mission in, and move on to the next.

Rendezvous

  1. Head back to the shower room, and go through another newly opened door, into the laundry room.
  2. Hit the elevator button at the end of the laundry room, and ride up to the next floor.
  3. Go through the door, and fight the enemies in this familiar room. Among them is Chaz, Mr. Shank's enraged former...friend. Fight your way through the room, then head back through the prison.
  4. Back in the garage, fix the Claptrap with the repair kit you found, then follow him to a locked door, which he'll unlock, giving you access to a roomful of cash, ammo and guns.
  5. Continue through the prison, watching for groups of enemies along the way.
  6. When you get to the prison door, activate it to return to the yard.
  7. Back in the prison yard, fight the enemies there, either on foot or after spawning a new car from the station on the right of the prison door.
  8. Jump from the open place in the wall, down to the desert floor.
  9. Drive across the desert until you reach the ramp up to the section of highway leading to the Ridgeway. Drive up, and activate the entrance.
  10. Drive back along the Ridgeway. The barriers that stopped you before have been removed, so it's now an uninterrupted, though still long, trip back to T-Bone Junction.
  11. Destroy the enemies that appear along the Ridgeway, or just ignore them. Since you won't be needing to get out of your car, you can just blow right past the Lance Probes and other enemies. They won't catch up unless you stop.
  12. Enter T-Bone Junction, and drive into town.
  13. Find Athena in, for some reason, the back room of Scooter's garage. Talk to her to turn in this mission, and get the next.

Code Breaker: Analysis

  1. Drive to the Ridgeway.
  2. Follow the waypoint to about halfway down the Ridgeway.
  3. Get out, and look for the stairs on the left, leading to the walkway you used in the "Road Warrior" mission.
  4. Follow the walkway parallel with the Ridgeway. Fight any enemies that appear.
  5. Find the Echo Locator you're looking for on the right side of the walkway. Activate it to turn this mission in, and get the next.

Code Breaker: Time is Bullets

  1. Drive to the Sunken Sea.
  2. Take the ramp down to the desert floor.
  3. Follow the waypoint across the desert, to the World's Largest Bullet attraction, near the center of the southern half of the map.
  4. Get out of the car at the entrance and go inside.
  5. Fight the enemies in the World's Largest Bullet area. There are Bruisers, Psychos, that kind of thing. No Crimson Lance in here.
  6. Find the Echo Locator you need in a stall near the vending machines.
  7. Activate the Echo Locator to finish this mission and move on to the next.

Athena Set Up Us the Bomb

  1. Drive to T-Bone Junction.
  2. Find Athena in her hideout in the back of Scooter's garage.
  3. Pick up the Detonator from the desk in front of Athena.
  4. Talk to her to move on.

Bridging the Gap

  1. Drive to Deep Fathom.
  2. Drive down along the ramp, to the desert floor.
  3. Head along the southern edge of the map, following the waypoint.
  4. When you can't go any farther by car, get out and walk. Go along the path, and out across the walkway.
  5. At the end of the walkway, look for the switch. Activate it to move on to the next mission.

Armory Assault

  1. Drive up to the area overlooking the place where you activated the switch in the last mission.
  2. Get out of the car and walk across the glowing energy bridge to the newly accessible area Road's End. Go inside.
  3. Fight another assassin squad, led by Ceresia.
  4. Follow the waypoint. When you see a station, spawn a car and drive.
  5. Find the ramp, and go up onto the section of highway. Follow it as far as you can, then get out and go on foot.
  6. Now, and for the rest of the mission, you'll be up to your armpits in enemies. Destroy each group as it appears; use cover whenever necessary; do whatever you have to do.
  7. Destroy the Devastator, and the rest of the enemies here, then move on.
  8. Brace yourself for an attack by the fourth and final assassin squad, led by Helicon. Once you've defeated them, you get to fight still more enemies, including another Devastator.
  9. Look for the side platform on the left. Follow the walkway beyond, and be prepared for enemies ahead.
  10. Follow the waypoint along the walkways, fighting enemies as you go.
  11. Eventually, you'll come to the entrance to the Crimson Armory area. Go in.
  12. Follow the waypoint down the hallways. Look for a small passage, like a bunker, toward the right. When you find it, follow it to a button on the wall.
  13. Hit the button to activate the elevator, and trigger the final boss battle. Finally, you're face to face with General Knoxx.
  14. Knoxx is powerful, and his armor's ridiculous. You need to hit him with everything you have, then find some more things to have, and hit him with those too. Be on the move when fighting him; some of his attacks can drain your whole shield and health to nothing, so that the next hit will down you. As the battle progresses, Knoxx will summon minions to help him, including Devastators. Deal with them as quickly as you can; if you try to ignore them and concentrate on Knoxx, they'll kill you. Be patient, and use your best stuff against Knoxx.
  15. When You've finished off Knoxx, go through the big, newly opened doorway. Go down to the end of the hallway, and up the stairs to the door.
  16. On the four colored buttons on the side of the door, enter the code: Dark Blue, Yellow, Light Blue, Orange.
  17. Go through the unlocked door, and follow the hallway into the room filled with weapons chest, which are all unfortunately behind force fields. Go through the room, to the platform on the far side.
  18. Hit the button on the platform, and listen to Athena's message.
  19. Don't hit the switch on the right until you're ready to scramble. Clear out any unwanted junk from your inventory; make room for some sweet new weapons.
  20. When you're ready, hit the switch. You'll only have a few minutes to raid the armory before it blows, so make your time count. Open as many chests as you can, and grab anything that looks good.
  21. When time is about to expire, run for the platform in the center of the room and hit the switch to escape the explosion. Then, watch the credits.

Side Quests

Secret Armory contains a number of side quests, which players can choose to undertake in order to earn money and experience points. Not all side quests are available at once; they'll appear periodically as you progress through the main story missions, and as you complete other side quests. By the same token, not all side quests can be performed immediately upon their appearance; for some, you'll have to wait until you unlock new areas. Some side quests are stand-alone missions, requiring you to go to an area and perform a given task, then return to where you got the mission and turn it in for your reward. Others are ongoing, requiring some time and energy to complete; these are best integrated into the overall game, as completing them on their own, then returning to the same area to complete a story mission, will lead to redundant fighting. All of the quests listed below are optional. You can choose to accept them at the location specified, and even if you accept them, it's up to you whether or not you choose to complete them and turn them in. The one exception to this is the mission "Wanted: Dead." As you move through the story, you'll be attacked by the Crimson Lance Assassins whether you accept this mission or not; the only optional component is turning the mission in, which will require a bit of extra effort.

The side quests are organized by location and, roughly, by chronology within a particular location. As in the original Borderlands, you'll be prompted when new missions become available at each location.

T-Bone Junction Bounty Board

Keep your eye on the T-Bone Junction Bounty Board as you move through the game. New side quests will appear fairly frequently, giving you the opportunity for leveling up toward the expansion's new level cap of 61.

Big Crimson Brother is Watching

  1. After accepting this mission, go through T-Bone Junction, tracking down and destroying the Crimson Lance probes. You're looking for the little red robots that sit inconspicuously out in the open. You'll get the first shot at them for free, but then they'll wake up and attack you from the air, so be ready to fight. Electrical weapons work well against them, draining their shields quickly and knocking them down fairly easily.
  2. The first robot can be found on the sidewalk to the right of the Bounty Board. Use your fight with this robot to learn exactly what you can expect from these guys, then move along to the next.
  3. Find the second probe on the roof of Scooter's garage. Climb the stairs to the left of the building, then destroy the robot.
  4. Drop down to the street, and turn left. Climb the incline, and follow the road.
  5. Find the third probe at the end of the curve leading to the second incline in the road. Blast it.
  6. Follow the waypoint up the second incline, and then to the far western edge of the highest section of T-Bone Junction. Find the probe here and destroy it.
  7. Follow the waypoint down to the lower level of the area, the part with the disconnected sections of platform. You can drop down directly from where you are, but make sure there's solid ground beneath you, as falling to the desert floor will kill you instantly.
  8. Find the last probe, and put it out of commission.
  9. Return to the Bounty Board to collect your reward.

Road Rage

  1. This is best dealt with as an ongoing mission. You'll need to destroy 10 bandit cars, called Cheetah Paws. You should have plenty of opportunity to do this as you're driving around doing other things, so there's no need to rush through it all at once.
  2. Cheetah Paws can be found in both the Sunken Sea and Deep Fathom areas, cruising around on the desert floor. Don't confuse them with the Crimson Lance cars that frequent the Ridgeway and Crimson Tollway, and that are significantly tougher.
  3. It's difficult to predict the behavior of the Cheetah Paws. Sometimes they'll keep their distance, as if they want no part of you; sometimes they'll fire missiles on sight; and sometimes they'll try their best to ram you, which can get annoying, since your car is so easily flipped.
  4. As you drive through Deep Fathoms and the Sunken Sea--and if you accept this quest fairly soon after it becomes available, you'll be driving through these areas plenty before the end of the main story--destroy any Cheetah Paws you happen to encounter. They're not very tough, and your total will climb quickly toward the required 10.
  5. The Monster is particularly well suited to this quest, since its heat-seeking missiles eliminate the Cheetah Paws' only real advantage, which is speed. The missiles will track the enemy cars relentlessly, so you don't need to line up every shot perfectly. Three or four hits should be all you need to take down each car. Cheetah Paws' weapons aren't very powerful, so you should win any encounter you have with these bandits.
  6. When you've destroyed 10 Cheetah Paws, simply return to the Bounty Board in T-Bone Junction to claim your reward.

Power Leech

  1. Drive to the Sunken Sea, and follow the ramp on the right down onto the desert floor.
  2. Bear left, and continue on, fighting or avoiding any Drifters, Cheetah Paws or mines you come across.
  3. Follow the waypoint, and drive under the section of road it indicates. Get out of the car when you can't go any further, and head into the village.
  4. Fight the Skag Riders--Midgets who ride around on Skags--who inhabit the village. The game refers to these enemies as single entities, but either one of the creatures involved--the Midget or the Skag--can be killed separately, leaving the other still alive and capable of doing damage. This holds true for the purposes of fighting for your life; if you kill one or the other, but not necessarily both, you'll still get your second wind.
  5. Battle through the slew of tiny enemies in the village. In addition to the basic Skag Riders, there are Bad Ass versions, plus other varieties of enemy, including Bad Ass Midgets. Bad Ass or not, it's hardly necessary to point out the humiliation you'll suffer if you're beaten by a midget. Don't underestimate these limbo champions; they just keep coming, and can overwhelm you with sheer numbers if you're not careful.
  6. Go up the small ramp near the center of the village, and follow the ascending staircases and ramps. There will be plenty more enemies, all midgets of one kind or another, as you go, so don't let your guard down.
  7. Find the Bomb just past the large section of pipe you have to go through. Pick it up.
  8. Drop back down to the ground, or retrace your steps down the ramps, if you can't take the fall. Head back to the gate of the village, and leave this terrible, terrible place.
  9. Get back in the car and follow the waypoint to your next destination.
  10. Drive as far as you can, then get out and go into the walled-off area. There are more midgets in here. That's probably why it's walled off. Fight your way forward, bearing right.
  11. Around the corner, there are more enemies, this time full-sized ones. These are Outlaws, Bandits, that kind of thing. Fight through them.
  12. Find the ramp, and follow it up to the section of road above. There are more enemies here, and tougher varieties than down below, so watch out. Be prepared for a Bad Ass or two.
  13. Look for the Generator all the way at the end of the road, on the left. Place the charge on it.
  14. Drop down to the desert floor, and follow the waypoint, or the wire, to the Detonator. Use it to destroy the power-leeching equipment. You'll see the lights at the prison come back on as soon as your job is done.
  15. Turn this mission in where you got it, at the T-Bone Junction Bounty Board.

Drifter Lifter

  1. Drive to the Sunken Sea, and down to the desert floor.
  2. Follow the waypoint toward the isolated section of road to the west.
  3. Kill any Drifters you see now, while you have the chance. You'll have your hands full in a minute, and you don't need more enemies attacking from behind.
  4. Find your target, the enormous Drifter they call Skyscraper, under the section of road. There will probably be a group of Drifters here, and it'll be easier to take them all out, rather than trying to target just Skyscraper.
  5. Battle the Drifters. Watch out for their caustic acid spit, and for their long, deadly legs.
  6. Keep an eye on your car's health-bar. If it gets too low, drive away and let it regenerate, or find a station and spawn a new one. Drifters aren't too tough when you're fighting them from a vehicle, but trying to take down three of them on foot is a tall order. This quest will go much more smoothly if you stay in the car for the duration.
  7. Once Skyscraper is no more, head back to the Bounty Board to turn this mission in.

Bugged

  1. Go to the Road's End area.
  2. Drop down into the canyon on the west side of the map.
  3. Follow the canyon south, fighting enemies as they appear. There's a colony of Skag-riding Midgets down here, which you'll probably want to take down, since their speed allows them to pester you if you try to simply run past them.
  4. Find the path through the rocks at the southern end of the canyon, and follow it.
  5. Look for the lever next to the little shack in the area at the end of the path. Pull the lever.
  6. Head back the way you came, up the path and then north through the canyon. Follow the waypoint, and the gondola lines overhead.
  7. Find the gondola base at the northern edge of the canyon. Pull the switch.
  8. Jump into one of the gondola cars. You may have to wait for a bit. Be patient, another car will arrive before too long.
  9. Ride the gondola up to the top of the cliff, where there's a charming little mountain village. Unfortunately, it's inhabited exclusively by Crimson Lance soldiers, who you'll have to battle through in order to reach your goal.
  10. Fight through the village. Climb the stairs to the rooftops, and keep moving upward. There are a lot of enemies here, so be ready for another fight at every turn.
  11. Follow the walkway toward the tower. Fight the enemies at the end of the walkway.
  12. Climb the stairs at the base of the tower, and activate the computer terminal.
  13. Turn this mission in when you get the chance, and collect your reward.

Circle of Duty

  1. This mission will appear after you've completed the main story. Drive out of T-Bone Junction, along the Ridgeway, and into the Sunken Sea area.
  2. Bear right and drive down the ramp, onto the desert floor.
  3. Head north, and take the next ramp up onto another section of road. Drive along it, in the direction of the waypoint.
  4. Get out of the car near the end of the road, by the staircase on the right. Climb the stairs, and enter the newly accessible area Circle of Duty.
  5. Look for Zack behind the counter along one wall. Talk to him to turn in this mission, and trigger the Circle of Duty challenge. This is a series of arena-style battles, pitting you against an army of Crimson Lance soldiers. As you clear rounds and move up in rank, the difficulty will escalate, as more and harder enemies will enter the arena to challenge you. Unlike most battles, if you die in the Circle, you'll have to start the round all over. There are enemies of every variety, including Badasses, Royal Guards, and even cars.
  6. When you're ready, go out through the newly opened door, and into the glowing red circle, to begin the ordeal.
  7. There are five rounds of Circle of Duty: Cadet, Private, Corporal, Sergeant, and Medal of Duty. The difficulty--and the sheer number of enemies--increases with each round.
  8. When fighting, be prepared for enemies to come from any direction. It's best to find an elevated perch and pick them off from above, but even then, they'll do their best to surround you. Stay off the roads, as cars can sometimes appear with little warning, and flatten you in one shot. When you're done with each round, turn it in to Zack behind the counter to begin the next.

You. Will. Die.

The game's not kidding here. Crawmerox the Invincible is by far the most ridiculously difficult boss in the game, and if you go after him before you're level 61--and probably, even if you are--you'll get torn to shreds. Cramerox only takes damage with Critical Hits, and he throws out minions who are, in themselves, formidable challenges. Every time you die, Crawmerox regains whatever health you were able to strip off him, so you can't just keep coming back and wearing him down. If you want a serious challenge, here's how to reach Crawmerox:

  1. Drive to the Deep Fathoms area.
  2. Take the ramp on the right down onto the desert floor.
  3. Drive across the desert to the Crimson Lance outpost in the west, where the energy bridge to Road's End can be found.
  4. Instead of going over the bridge, head to the right, and find a ramp leading up to a section of road.
  5. Climb the ramp, and follow the waypoint along the road. You'll see signs saying "Secret Final Boss" and "Trouble," and feel the ground begin to shake.
  6. Follow the signs into the small cave, and wait for the entrance to the new area, Crawmerox's Lair, to emerge. Then enter.
  7. Press the button on the left to summon the elevator.
  8. Get in the elevator and press the button to ride to the top of a plateau, and say hello to Crawmerox.
  9. Die.

Marcus--T-Bone Junction

Marcus, the weapons merchant from the original Borderlands, has opened up a location in T-Bone Junction, and he has work for you, if you're interested. Marcus' missions are long, ongoing affairs, so it's best to pick them up as soon as possible. You'll be doing the things involved in these missions--mainly, killing Crimson Lance soldiers--no matter what, so you might as well be working toward accomplishing these quests while you're at it.

Core Collection

Once you accept this mission, every Crimson Lance enemy you kill will drop a Core, a component of their armor which Marcus would like very much to get his hands on. There are three types of Core, varying in rarity. Marcus wants a certain number of each. Each type of Core, in addition to counting toward your total, provides a unique bonus when you collect it, which can come in handy during a fight. All you have to do in order to receive the bonus is pick up the Core; you'll activate its abilities automatically.

  • Shock Cores: The most common type of Core. You'll need to collect 100 of these. Picking up a Shock Core instantly refills your shield-bar to full, and also releases periodic bursts of electricity for a short time. These can be useful during a battle, if you happen to be able to pick one up at the right time.
  • Power Cores: Marcus wants 50 of these. When collected, Power Cores provide a boost to your melee and projectile attacks for a short period of time.
  • Speed Cores: These are somewhat rare, so it's a good thing Marcus only needs 25 of them. When you pick up a Speed Core, you'll get a temporary burst of speed, letting you run much faster than normal.

As you progress through the game, you'll have plenty of opportunity to collect Cores. After a battle, don't forget to search the area for the glowing green trophy icons that indicate Cores. When driving from one place to another, run down whatever Crimson Lance soldiers you see, and hop out if the car to collect their Cores. Lance Probes, by the way, don't drop Cores, so don't bother targeting them when you'd normally keep driving.

When you've got the required number of each type of Core, return to Marcus' shop in T-Bone Junction to collect your reward.

Mop Up

Once you've finished the main story, Marcus will offer you another quest. He wants you to track down a certain number of a few different types of Crimson Lance soldiers, just to make sure the area is safe for his new commercial enterprise. Kill the requires number of each enemy type, then turn in this mission for your reward.

Kill:

  • 5 Bad Ass enemies of any type
  • 10 Pyros
  • 10 Chemical Troopers
  • 10 Shock Troopers
  • 10 Rocketeers

Super-Marcus Sweep

  1. When you turn in the previous mission, "Mop Up," Marcus will offer you this one. This is basically a recycling of the "Armory Assault" story mission.
  2. Return to the Crimson Armory area. To get there, drive out the Crimson Tollway, into Deep Fathoms; get out at the Crimson Lance outpost and cross the energy bridge into Road's End. Drive up the ramp and along the road until you can't go any farther, then get out and go ahead on foot, down the road and along the walkways on the left, until you reach the Crimson Armory entrance.
  3. You'll have to fight your way back to the armory. Again, this is essentially the same mission as "Armory Assault," so expect a similar number of enemies at every point along the way.
  4. Inside the armory, you'll have to fight General Knoxx and his cronies again. It's tough to say how exactly this squares with the overall story, in which you killed Knoxx and blew up his armory. But there it is.
  5. Once you've defeated Knoxx and his minions, go through the halls and to the switch, just like before.
  6. Again, you'll have a few minutes to grab weapons and other items before escaping the explosion. Pretty much the same as before, except the guns seem less impressive this time.
  7. When you've destroyed the armory--again--head back to T-Bone Junction to turn this quest in.

Local Trouble

Marcus has more enemies he needs you to get rid of for him. You'll need to kill the following number of each type:

  • 50 Prisoners
  • 100 Midgets
  • 25 Skags

You'll need to drive out to the Sunken Sea area. There's a midget village in the northeast section of the map (under the section of road), and another directly below the prison. You should find Midgets and Skag Riders in both. You may need to drive back and forth a few times, to give the game time to load more after you've wiped out a whole village.

You'll need to go into Lockdown Palace again, following the same route as in the mission "Over the Wall" (jump the ramp, through the hole in the rock, onto the ramp, etc.). The enemies in the prison yard don't count, but once you're actually inside Lockdown Palace, you should have no trouble finding 50 prisoners. When you're done, return this mission to Marcus in T-Bone Junction.

It's Like Christmas!

Marcus will reward you for the previous mission by giving you one more crack at the armory (which has been blown up twice already). This is another rehash of "Armory Assault," complete with miraculously resurrected General Knoxx. Fight your way in, trigger the bombs, grab as many weapons as you can, then escape. It's really more like Groundhog's Day then Christmas.

Scooter--T-Bone Junction

Scooter has a side quest for you. Once you've completed it, you'll be able to spawn the powerful four-person vehicle, the Lancer.

OMG APC

  1. Drive to the Ridgeway.
  2. Follow the waypoint down the road, to a little more than halfway down the Ridgeway.
  3. Find the Lancer Digitruct Module. Fight the enemies in the area, then pick up the Module and drive back the way you came.
  4. Turn in the module, and the mission, to Scooter, in his garage in T-Bone Junction. You should now be able to spawn the Lancer.

Athena--T-Bone Junction

Once you rescue her from the Lockdown Palace, Athena will take up residence in the back of Scooter's garage in T-Bone Junction. In addition to the story missions she gives you, she also has a few optional side quests which you can choose to perform.

This Bitch is Payback

  1. Drive to the Ridgeway.
  2. Go to the area where you destroyed the first roadblock in the "Road Warrior" story mission.
  3. Go up the stairs on the right, and follow teh same route you took to reach the roadblock controls. There will be Crimson Lance enemies all along your path, so be careful.
  4. Your first target, Commander Kyros, is waiting for you on the rooftop on the left. He has some goons with him, and he throws out a suped-up version of the shields used by Lance Engineers. He's weak to electricity, so hit him hard with whatever you have of that damage type.
  5. When you've defeated Kyros, drop down to the road, get back in your car, and drive on, to the area of the second roadblock.
  6. Get out of the car, and go up the stairs. Again, follow the same route as before, fighting enemies as they appear.
  7. Commander Typhus will appear on the rooftop when you get close. Defeat him, and his group of Crimson Lance goons.
  8. When Typhus is dead, drop down to the road and get back in your car, then return to Athena in T-Bone Junction to turn this mission in.

This Bitch is Payback, Part 2

  1. Athena will give this mission to you as soon as you turn in the first one, but, depending on where you are in the story missions, you may not be able to do it right away. Just accept it, and sit on it until you unlock the Road's End area, toward the end of the main story.
  2. This mission is best performed along with the "Knoxxed Out" quest, also handed out by Athena (see below). You'll run into your target, Commander Ajax, at the same Crimson Lance outpost where you'll find the third Echo Locator in "Knoxxed Out."
  3. If you choose to do this mission on its own, drive to Road's End, and follow the waypoint into the canyon.
  4. Follow the canyon south, taking out the Wild Alpha Skags who live here.
  5. Ajax can be found at the Crimson Lance outpost near the end of the canyon. He's surrounded by a bunch of Crimson Lance soldiers, including a Devastator or two. This is a serious battle, so be prepared to spend some ammo.
  6. Ajax is in a Lance Rocketeer suit. He flies around, making it tough to get a bead on him. You'll probably want to take down as many lesser enemies as you can before going after Ajax, as they'll hammer away at you while you're trying to take him down. Be patient, and wipe out the whole group.
  7. Once you've killed Ajax, you can return to Athena in T-Bone Junction to collect on this mission.

Knoxxed Out

  1. Drive to Road's End.
  2. Find the first of five Echo Locators just inside the area, across from the entrance.
  3. Follow the waypoint to the second Echo Locator, in the shack on the desert floor, beneath the power lines.
  4. Follow the waypoint south, through the canyon. Fend off the Wild Alpha Skags and Skag Riders that attack you.
  5. Find the third Echo Locator at the Crimson Lance outpost near the southeastern end of the canyon. If you're also doing the "This Bitch is Payback" mission, you'll find Commander Ajax here as well. Fight the enemies at the outpost, then grab the third Echo Locator, on the right.
  6. Leave the canyon by the narrow passageway in the northeast. Get a car at the nearby station, an drive on toward your next destination.
  7. Drive around to the right, and go up the ramp, onto the section of road. Follow the road toward the Crimson Armory.
  8. Use turbo to jump the ramp in your path, then keep going, past the barriers. When you can't go any further, get out and go on foot.
  9. There are enemies here, in great numbers. Fight through them and keep moving.
  10. Go up the stairs on the right, and battle through the enemies above.
  11. Go across the walkway, and find the fourth Echo Locator on a crate on the rooftop.
  12. Drop down to the road, and follow the waypoint forward.
  13. From here on out, you'll be battling enemies every step of the way. This is the same area you'll need to fight through in the story mission "Armory Assault," so it's highly recommended that you do this quest at the same time. Otherwise, you'll be fighting through one of the tougher areas in the game twice.
  14. Fight the Crimson Lance Assassins, led by Helicon, then the enemies beyond, including a Devastator.
  15. Find the walkway on the left side of the road, and follow it, onto the series of platforms there. Fight through the many, many enemies who try to stop you.
  16. Pick up the fifth and final Echo Locator from the crate, indicated by the waypoint.
  17. Return this mission to Athena in T-Bone Junction when you get a chance.

Moxxi--Moxxi's Red Light, Deep Fathoms

Mad Moxxi has a few missions she needs taken care of. For some reason, it's tough to say no to her. Find Moxxi's Red Light near the center of Deep Fathoms, surrounded by hordes of Bandits, Outlaws, Bruisers, and other old-school enemies.

Thrown for a Loop

  1. After leaving Moxxi's, fight the enemies outside, or just drop down to the desert floor.
  2. Get yourself a car. The Racer's your best bet for this mission.
  3. Follow the waypoint to the loop, near the eastern edge of the map.
  4. Kill any Drifters in the area; you don't need them distracting you with their acid spit while you're trying to perform your stunt.
  5. When the area's calm, line yourself up with the entrance to the loop.
  6. Gun it, and hit your turbo as you enter the loop. If you're lined up correctly, you should complete a full loop.
  7. Return to Moxxi's to claim your reward.

Stain Removal

  1. Drop down to the desert and get a car, then drive it in the direction of the waypoint.
  2. Drive as far as you can, then leave the car at the entrance to the bandit camp. Get out and go ahead on foot.
  3. Fight through the enemies in the camp, until you reach the first piece of graffiti, on the base of the tower. Erase it, then return to your car and drive on.
  4. Find the second graffiti in the bandit camp beneath the section of road where Moxxi's is. There are, of course, more enemies inside the camp, including some Bruisers. Stick around long enough to find and erase the nasty message, then turn around and leave the camp.
  5. Drive to the southwest corner of the map, and find the third graffiti message on the shack on the edge of the cliff. Erase it.
  6. Follow the waypoint to the fourth graffiti mark, which beneath the section of road leading to the Crimson Tollway, on one of the support pillars. Erase the message, and watch out for Cheetah Paws.
  7. Follow the waypoint back to the same camp where you found the first graffiti message. You missed one. Fight your way back into the camp, battling enemies, including a Badass or two. Locate the last piece of graffiti, and erase it.
  8. Return to Moxxi to claim your reward.
