The Border terrier is a small dog with strong sturdy bones with narrow shoulders and they have thick, wiry, unkempt fur coat that is usually short. This is an alert hunter whose agility allows them to squeeze their body into tight little spaces. This agility make them successful hunters who usually get whatever unfortunate animal is trying to hide. The border terrier originated on the border of England and Scotland in the 1860s. Typically small dogs have coarse long hair and are red or tan with a darker muzzle. The breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930.
This is probably one of the oldest Terrier breeds of in all of Great Britain and their reputation of a terrific fox hunter has spread throughout the world. Health Problems

Some Terriers can develop Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome (CECS). This is a recent disease that was discovered and believed to inflict the Border Terrier breed. Take you pet to the vet for regular check-ups, this will help to keep your Terrier healthier so that they can live a full life.
If you live in an apartment, make sure your pet get adequate exercise by taking them on regular walk around the neighborhood or in the park. A medium sized yard is necessary if you are not able to get outside often enough to go for walks.
Sports or Activities
Border terriers can be shown professionally or entered into agility competitions. They do not require as much exercise as other breeds and can conform to the lifestyles of their owners. They are also typically gentle and recommended for a home that has small children.
