Boone Carlyle was a character on ABC’s Lost, and he was played by Ian Somerhalder. Boone was the Stepbrother of fellow survivor Shannon Rutherford, with whom he was secretly in love with. He formed a close friendship with John Locke after the two discovered the Hatch.

Before the Crash When Boone was ten years old, his mother married Shannon’s father. Over the years Boone’s fondness for Shannon grew, and when Boone turned 20 Shannon’s father died. Boone told Shannon she could live with him in New York, but Boone’s mother offered him a job in another state and he had to move. Shannon told Boone to ask his mother for money so she could have some of her father’s inheritance. But Boone’s mother refused to give him any, knowing it was for Shannon. Although Boone would not admit it, he was in love with Shannon and would often rescue her from abusive boyfriends by paying them to leave her alone. On one of the rescues Boone flew out to Sydney to save her. However once there Boone discovered that it was all a scam so Shannon could get money and attention. Boone’s love for Shannon was revealed, leading to a one night stand. Shannon said they should go home and act like nothing happened, leaving Boone feeling very hurt and confused. The next morning they boarded Oceanic Flight 815.

After the Crash While on the Island Boone liked to help out but was protective of Shannon, although he was often annoyed by her lack of initiative. When Boone realized that Shannon was developing a relationship with Sayid Jarrah, his protectiveness mixed with jealousy and he tried to end the relationship. Eventually he started letting her go and became John Locke’s apprentice. The two stumbled upon a metal Hatch one day and kept it a secret from the other survivors. 41 days after the crash, Boone and Locke found a Beechcraft high in a tree canopy. Locke instructed Boone to climb up into the aircraft to see what’s inside. Boone did as he was told and discovered a radio, which he used to send out a Mayday. To his surprise a man responded, later revealed to be Bernard Nadler of the tail-section survivors. Suddenly the aircraft fell out of the tree and crashed to the ground. Although Jack tried to save Boone, he died. Boone tried to give Jack a message for Shannon, but died before he could.
