Boogeyman is a
2005 horror film that plays on the enduring childhood myth of the monster in the closet. The film is about a young man who is convinced that his father was killed by the Boogeyman, and is now afraid that it's coming back to get him. Eventually, the hero must confront his fears, in a scenario similar to the
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy principle of "flooding." The film was co-produced by
Evil Dead's
Sam Raimi. It is not the first horror adaptation of the Boogeyman myth—
Stephen King's
1978 short story mined much of the same territory, only from the perspective of a parent.
