The new country music duo known as Bomshel formed in 2004, in Nashville, Tennessee. The two-piece band consists of Kristy Osmonson from Idaho on fiddle and vocals and Kelley Shepard from Michigan on guitar and vocals. The band originally had Buffy Lawson from Kentucky, on lead vocals but since then Kelley Shepard has replaced her in the band Bomshell.
The two girls met each other at a show in Michigan. They began their music career together as Bomshell in Nashville, Tennessee. On Tuesday nights, they started playing together at bars during the city's slowest night of the week.
Their influences range from Kristy's parents Christian music to Garth Brooks, Chris LeDoux, Heart, Def Leppard, Brooks & Dunn, and even Journey. Their songs and song writing of the band Bomshel strongly reflect conflicts and experiences in their lives and others.
Bomshel Career
Kelley grew up singing in local venues in Phoenix, Arizona, where she used to introduce herself at ten years old, as "Curb recording artist Kelley Shepard!". Things started to pick up after sending a tape to the Ellen Degeneres show. From that she got noticed by the singer, Brian McKnight who began developing her talents.
Kristy also had a young exposure to music. At 4 years old, she was part of a band called The Fiddler's Hatchery, which ended up touring the Northwest United States and Canada. She has wanted to be a country singer from a young age, and listed Garth Brooks as an influence.
The girls had their first meeting by chance at a show in Michigan. Kristy describes it as, "The first time I got nervous to follow another artist on stage was after seeing Kelley perform. She doesn't just stand there and hold a microphone; she entertains her audience and puts on a SHOW." Ever since then they've been cranking out music together.
Bomshel has been nominated for the Top new vocal duo of the year http://www.melodika.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18617&Itemid=50 for the Annual Academy of Country Music Awards which is set to start at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 18.
