Critic's Response
Critic Emanuel Levy gave it a "B+" grade on his site, praising the movie's numerous plot changes that would keep audiences "in constant need of adjusting their perceptions and expectations." He also praised DiCaprio's "top form" performance, but found the cell conversations between him and Russell Crowe "tedious."Emanuel Levy: Body of Lies Review
Roger Ebert wrote in his review that Body of Lies "contains enough you can believe, or almost believe, that you wish so much of it weren't sensationally implausible." Ebert found the acting "convincing," which was enough for the movie to earn a score of three out of four stars.Roger Ebert: Body of Lies Review (October 8, 2008)
Todd McCarthy of Variety called Body of Lies a "contrived phony-baloney" film because of its "formulaic" plot with a "climax so conventional it would have been at home in a 1940s Warner Bros. melodrama." The Hollywood Reporter's Kirk Honeycutt, on the other hand, thought Body was a "new kind of spy thriller" with "rapid" point-of-view switches and a "tough-minded" screenplay.Variety: Body of Lies Review (October 2, 2008) The Hollywood Reporter: Body of Lies Review (October 2, 2008)
