Wins gold in super-combined
American skier Bode Miller had to settle for winning three medals at the Vancouver Olympics, as he failed in two attempts to become the first Alpine skier to history to collect four in one Olympics. In his final race in the Vancouver Games, the [giant [slalom]] on February 27, he missed a gate just eight seconds into the race and was disqualified. In his previous event, the slalom on February 23, he crashed. Miller is on of five skiers to earn three medals in a single Olympics. Miller earned his first gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics in the super-combined on February 21, when he posted a two-run time of 2 minutes, 44.92 seconds for a convincing 0.33 victory. Miller then captured the bronze in the downhill on February 15 and added a silver in the super-G on February 19. Miller was shut out of any medals in Turin after winning a pair of silvers in Salt Lake City in 2002. His five total medals are the most for any American Alpine skier in Olympic history. At 32 years old, the New Hampshire native may now contemplate retiring, something he considered before Vancouver.
