Bobby Fischer became a famous chess player as a teenager and in 1972 he became the only American World Chess Champion. In 1975 he had a dispute with the international chess authorities, and refused to defend his title. He is considered one of the greatest chess players of all time, although his later years were marred by controversial anti-semitic and September 11 comments.
