Robert Calvin Bland, aka Bobby Blue Bland, along with many other singers developed a style that mixed R&B with soul music. He is also one of the original Beale Streeters, a vocal group that included Johnny Ace Roscoe Gordon and B.B. King.
Career
Bland grew up in the southern United States. He cut his musical teeth on the Beale Street circuit, and then was recruited to tour with Junior Parker.
Bland recorded the hit singles "Father Up the Road" and "Turn On Your Love Light" both of which were composed by lyricist Joe Scott. Bland continued to have hits through his long and varied career ranging from blues, to gospel, to disco, back to blues. In 1992 the performer was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
