  • Pro Career

    Abreu made his Major league baseball debut on September 1, 1996 with the Houston Astros. He would be claimed in the expansion draft in 1997 by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but then traded to Philadelphia Phillies. In Philadelphia he would establish himself a productive hitter and legitimate power threat. He would earn his first All-Star selection in 2004, as the winner of the All-Star Final Vote winner for the National League. The following season he would be selected a starter, and would win the 2005 Home Run Derby contest during All-Star Weekend. He would complete the 2005 campaign picking up a Gold Glove Award.
