Boba

Boba are tapioca balls that are usually added to a beverage, most frequently a milky tea called bubble tea. In America, the tea itself is often referred to as Boba.

Boba Culture

When ordering bubble teas, customers must decide between "pearls" or "boba" included in their drink. Either one contains tapioca balls. It takes an hour to cook tapioca pearls. Afterwards, they are poured into a sugar water mixture and used. Soy milk is available as a replacement for those who wish to not drink dairy products.

Bubble Tea Ingredients

  • ½ cup cooked bubble tea (tapioca) pearls
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 cup very strong chilled black tea
  • 1 cup homogenized milk, or to taste
  • honey or granulated sugar
