Bob Melvin

  • Bob Melvin most recently served as the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Melvin became the Diamondbacks' manager in 2005, and lead the team to a National League West title in 2007.

    Melvin was fired as manager of the Diamondbacks on May 7, 2009. The Diamondbacks began the 2009 season with a 12-17 record, 8.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.ESPN.com: Manager Melvin Out in Arizona

    The Detroit Tigers selected Melvin with the second pick of the 1981 draft. He made his major league debut in 1985, and went on to play for seven different teams in 10 seasons.   • Coaching Career

    Melvin took his first coaching position with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1996 as a scout. He went on to serve as a coach for the Detroit Tigers for one season in 2000, then joined the Arizona Diamondbacks coaching staff the following year. Melvin took over as the manager of the Seattle Mariners in 2003, before returning to the Diamondbacks as manager in 2005.
