Born in a small village in Jamaica, Marley faced prejudice at an early age as the mixed-race son of a white Marine officer and a black Jamaican. His mother was an eighteen-year-old black girl named Cedella Booker, and his father was Captain Norval Marley. Bob Marley's father was a white quartermaster attached to the British West Indian Regiment. http://web.bobmarley.com/story/?storypage=2 After moving to the Trenchtown neighborhood of Kingston with his mother, Marley met and began to play music with a number of other like-minded friends (including Neville "Bunny" Livingston and Peter Tosh). This was the song that launched their career, and people in Jamaica were exposed to the strong reggae sound of the band. However, in the proceeding years three of the key members, Junior Braithwaite,Beverly Kelso, and Cherry Smith had quit. In 1966 Marley's mother remarried and moved to the United States. She saved money to send to her son to join her. However, after Bob Marley married Rita Anderson his stay in America was short lived and he returned to Jamaica to be with her.
