The Bob Hope Classic is a professional Golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It has been held annually in January since the first event in 1960. The tournament is a Pro-Am event which takes places over five days on four different courses. Background
The Bob Hope Classic was known as the Palm Springs Golf Classic when it was founded in 1960. The first winner was Arnold Palmer, who shot 22 strokes under par, which was a tournament record for twenty years. The event drew big name celebrities over the years such as Bing Crosby, Dezi Arnaz, Kirk Douglas , Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Gerald Ford and Bob Hope, whose name became associated with the tournament in 1965.http://www.bhcc.com/history.html Arnold Palmer has won the event five times. 2010 Tournament
On October 14, the "Classic Girls" were announced for the 2010 event. They are ambassadors of the event, participating in promotions and special events throughout the week of the tournament. In the first round of the event, 92 players scored better than par. The leader was Shane Bertsch, who shot a ten under par round at PGA West (Nicklaus course). The second round of the tournament was postponed due to rain and was played on Friday, January 22. Bubba Watson took the lead after shooting a round of 62, ten under par. He was seven under par after the front nine which included an eagle on the 335 yard, par 4 fourth hole at the Silver Rock Resort. He was nine under par for the round after twelve holes, but got a bogey on the short par three 14th hole. Watson got a birdie on the 18th hole. Alex Prugh remained in second with a six under par round of 66 at the Palmer Tournament Course. Alex Prugh regained the lead at the end of the third round with a score of seven under par 65. Prugh got off to a quick start at the La Quinta course with birdies on the second, third and fourth holes. He had four more birdies without a bogey for the rest of the round. Second round leader Bubba Watson birdied the first, second and fourth holes at the Palmer Tournament Course and finished tied for second place at twenty under par. Also at twenty under par was Flores Martin, who shot his second consecutive round of 65. In the fourth round, Alex Prugh shot a round of 70 to share the lead with Bubba Watson at 23 under par. Watson held a two shot lead heading into the 18th hole. He got a double bogey on the par four to finish the round at three under par. Tim Clark and Bill Haas were just a shot behind and Joe Ogilvie was two shots back heading into the final round. There were many low scores during the final round. Matt Kuchar started the day in sixth place. He was eight under par after the first 11 holes and finished with 9 under par round of 63. Kuchar finished tied for second with Tim Clark, who shot a 65. Third round leaders Bubba Watson and Tim Prugh dropped to second and fifth, respectively with rounds of 66 and 67. Bill Haas shot a final round of 64 to win the event at thirty under par.
