Bob Geren

  • Bob Geren is the manager of the Oakland Athletics. After spending the 2006 as the Athletics' bench coach, Geren was promoted to manager after general manager Billy Beane fired Ken Macha.

    Geren was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 1979 MLB draft. After playing 10 seasons in the minors, Geren made his Major League Baseball debut with the New York Yankees in 1988.   • Managerial Career

    He began his managerial career working for a minor league team in the Boston Red Sox franchise in 1997. In 2000, he was hired by the Sacramento River Cats, a AAA affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. Geren moved into the majors in 2003, serving as a bench coach for the Athletics. He was then promoted to general manager of the Athletics in 2006.
