Bob Bennett, a Republican Senator for Utah, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frances Marion Grant and Senator Wallace F. Bennett. Bennett's grandfather, Heber J. Grant, and his father in law, David O. McKay, were both presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Watergate Connection
In 1970, Bennett was president of Robert Mullen Associates, a Washington, DC PR firm that sometimes did business with the CIA. (Because E. Howard Hunt, one of the Watergate burglars and a former "plumber" for Richard Nixon, he was later suspected of having been the infamous "Deep Throat," Woodward and Carl Bernstein's source on the story. (Deep Throat turned out to be FBI agent W. Mark Felt.)
Senate
Bennett started his political career as a Congressional liason to the U.S. Department of Transportation. was elected to the Senate in 1992. He's currently a ranking member of the Committee on Rules and Administration and serves as the Chief Deputy Majority Whip. He and fellow Utah Senator Orrin Hatch were two of only three Republican Senators to vote against the Flag Desecration Amendment in 2006.
