Bob Backlund is a retired professional wrestler, who was one of the longest reigning champions in history.
Managed by Arnold Skaaland, he won the WWWF Championship from Billy Graham in 1978. He held the title for nearly six years, losing the belt to the Iron Sheik in an infamous match where Skaaland threw in the towel while Backlund resisted submission in the Sheik's camel clutch.
Backlund took a break from wrestling, but returned to the WWE in the early 1990s. After losing a match to then-champion Bret Hart, Backlund "snapped," putting Hart in the crossface chickenwing. He later defeated Hart at the 1994 Survivor Series for the championship, but lost the belt to Diesel a few days later in a record eight-second match.
Backlund still makes infrequent appearances on WWE programming.
