Life and Career
Bob and his older brother Harvey Weinstein were raised in Flushing, Queens. The two grew up with an intense passion for films but began their careers by producing rock concerts.
Eventually, they moved into film and created Miramax Films, through which they produced a number of successful arthouse films during the 1980s. During this period they also produced Steven Soderbergh's Sex, Lies, and Videotape and gained a name as one of the top independent film producers. In 1993 they produced The Crying Game, which was a hit and precipitated Disney to buy their company for $80 million.
The Weinsteins stayed on as heads of Miramax and produced a number of other successful films. They parted ways with Miramax in 2005 and formed The Weinstein Company.
