According to trade papers Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Scorsese is rumored to be negotiations to direct the HBO series Boardwalk Empire based on a book of the same name. While Scorsese has directed such classic films as Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Gangs of New York and The Departed, he has limited experience directing television.
On December 1, 2008, The Hollywood Reporter also printed that character actor Steve Buscemi is in negotiations to star in the pilot. Bruscemi has previously appeared on the HBO series The Sopranos.TV Squad: Buscemi to star in HBO drama? (December 1, 2008)
