History
Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) was founded in 1916 in Germany. Originally, it produced aircraft engines but was forced to cease production after World War I, per the Versailles Armistice Treaty. The BMW logo is styled after an aircraft propeller. In 1923, BMW shifted to motorcycle production and, in 1928-9, to automobile production. Known for its luxury and performance cars, it produces the MINI brand, and is parent to Rolls Royce.[1]
