BMW M5

The BMW M5 is a high performance version of the BMW 5 Series. This 4-door has been sport tuned by the Motorsport division of BMW to deliver both luxurious amenities and a race car style driving experience. It was first introduced in 1985 as the hand-built E28 M5. The M5 is constantly evolving, since the first E28 the M5 has gone through three major redesigns, including one that put the model on hiatus between 2003 and 2005.

Car and Driver Review

  1. Noted the highs as the strong engine, great steering and breaking, and the over great performance while maintaining the every day drivability of the car.
  2. The lows included the annoyance of the iDrive system, a clunky sequential manual transmission, and weak styling.

Edmunds Review

  1. Lists the pros of the M5 as good balance, a driver-focused cabin, great build quality, and the engine.
  2. The cons are the iDrive, poor sequential manual transmission performance, and weak standard manual transmission.
