  • Background

Published by Fox Comics, the first Blue Beetle was police officer Dan Garrett, who took a special vitamin to gain his super-strength.

Fox Comics sold the rights to the character to Charlton Comics in the 1950s, revising Garrett's occupation as an archaeologist, using an ancient scarab for his powers instead of a vitamin.

When Garrett died, his student Ted Kord assumed the role of Blue Beetle, appearing in DC Comics titles like Justice League of America.

DC revisited the Beetle character in 2006 with a teenager, Jaime Reyes, donning the otherworldly costume.
