Blood in the urine, also referred to as hematuria, is the presence of red blood cells in the urine. It is a symptom rather than a disease. There are two different types of blood in the urine. It is considered microscopic hematuria when the blood is visible only under a microscope. Blood that is visible with the eye is referred to as gross hematuria.Yale Medical Group: What is Hematuria? eMedicineHealth: Blood in Urine Symptoms

Pseudohematuria
When the urine has a red color and there is no blood in the urine, it is referred to as pseudohematuria (false hematuria). This is usually the result of ingested substances such as medications or foods, which transmit a red color to the urine.Emory Healthcare: Hematuria: Causes of Hematuria Drugs.com: Pseudohematuria
