Blitz The League is an installment from Midway's Blitz football video game series. It's an arcade-style football game where the dark underbelly of the football lifestyle come out. Prostitution, drug use and gambling are part of the storyline, and dirty play on the field isn't off limits.IGN: Blitz The League Review (Xbox 360) (6.5) (December 1, 2006) Midway wasn't able to acquire an NFL license for their game (since EA has an exclusive contract), so they created an entirely new league with new players, teams and uniforms.Team Xbox: Blitz The League Review (7.2) (December 5, 2006) It was released for the Xbox and PS2 on October 17, 2005 and the Xbox 360 on October 30, 2006. The release of the Nintendo Wii version is expected during the first quarter of 2009.IGN: Blitz The League
Gameplay
This is a very fast-paced football game where the rules are bent in some places and broken in others. There is a 30-yard down instead of the standard ten, the teams are eight-on-eight, and the kinds of hits that players put on each other would normally land them in jail. When players get injured, the person playing has the option of "juicing" players up, so they can return to the game faster, but they risk more severe injuries. There is also a special "clash" mode that can be used during play. It allows the player to slow down time and position himself perfectly for the play.GameSpot: Blitz The League Review (Xbox 360) (7.4) (November 21, 2006)Blitz Overtime on PSP
A virtually identical version of Blitz The League can be found on the PSP under the title Blitz Overtime. It's practically the same game, but transferring it to the PSP caused slower load times and a little less detail in the graphics.GameSpot: Blitz Overtime for PSP Review (6.1) (December 20, 2006) Blitz Overtime also has some helmet logos, team coordinators, cities and All-Division teams that aren't on the other versions. The game was released on December 12, 2006.IGN: Blitz Overtime Review (6.2) (December 19, 2006)-
