  • Blind Lemon Jefferson was an American blues guitarist and singer from Texas. An early precursor to the 1930s blues artists, his subsequent success brought Paramount Records the recognition needed to become a leading record company.
  • Career

    Blind Lemon Jefferson self recorded his first singles "I Want to be like Jesus in my Heart" and "All I Want is that Pure Religion". Paramount Records noticed his success and immediately signed him. Over the next thre years (1926-1929) Jefferson recorded almost 100 songs for the label.

    After Paramount Jefferson switched labels to Okeh Records where he recorded the hit "Black Snake Moan". In the winter of 1929 Jefferson past away. Cause of his death has never been determined.
