Bleach is a shonen manga and anime series created by Tite Kubo, which follows the story of Ichigo Kurosaki - a teenage boy who has the powers of a Soul Reaper or Shinigami.
Due to his ability to see spirits, Ichigo meets a Soul Reaper or death god called Rukia Kuchiki. Because of an altercation with an evil spirit known as a Hollow, Rukia is forced to transfer her Soul Reaper ability to Ichigo. With Ichigo possessing Shinigami power and Rukia inhabiting the shell of a human body, Ichigo's ensuing experiences involve, in part, protecting humans from Hollows and challenging the actions of those in the afterlife, or Soul Society.
Bleach first aired in October 2004 in Japan. It has aired on YTV, Adult Swim and Anime Central in the West. The anime is now running its fifteenth season.
