First Blazer
A rowing club in Cambridge, England called the Lady Margaret Boat Club would give it's members 'blazing' red jackets. The jackets became known as blazers and those with gold buttons were considered "First My Colours" and those with silver were "Second May Colours". The blazer soon became a popular item among other clubs and also a staple with private schools. By the 1960s the blazer took on a new form as punk bands in London wore brightly colored blazers as part of their Mod Fashion look. Today both conservative and brightly colored versions of the blazer are popular with high end designers continuously redesigning the piece to their latest collections.
