Evolution of the Blazer
The term blazer first came from a boat club in Cambridge where the jackets worn were a red 'blazing' color. The term was later tagged to jackets used as not only club jackets but also uniform coats for airlines and private schools. By the 1960s the British began wearing the blazer as part of the Mod Fashion scene as many bands such as The Rolling Stones and The Kinks wore brightly colored blazers as part of their rocker look. Today blazers are both conservative and hip with a variety of high end designers creating their own chic versions.
