Senator Blanche Lincoln was a Democratic Representative and Senator from Arkansas. Elected at the age of 38, she was the youngest woman to be elected to the United States Senate. She once again made history when she was made Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, as she was the first Arkansan and the first woman to serve as Chairman. Lincoln provided a key role in the compromise that helped the passage of the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008. This bill provided more resources for nutrition, conservation, rural development and renewable energy than was available before. The bill also helped family farmers to produce traditional commodity crops and still compete in the global marketplace.http://lincoln.senate.gov/about/Biography.cfm
